Ajnala Clash News Update: 'Waris Punjab De' head Amritpal Singh and the Ajnala police reportedly reached a compromise after a clash at Ajnala on Thursday. Tension gripped the border town in Amritsar on Thursday when hundreds of supporters of the radical Sikh preacher laid siege to the Ajnala police station and clashed with cops seeking the release of Lovepreet Singh, alias Toofan, of Tibri village in Gurdaspur.

Several police personnel were injured in the melee. Amritpal Singh and his supporters were protesting against the arrest of one of his associates Toofan, and sought his release. However, the situation turned tensed when the protesters broke the barricades and stormed into the Ajnala police station.  Several policemen sustained injuries in the clash.

Later, 'Waris Punjab De' head Amritpal Singh held a meeting with senior police officials and a compromise was struck between both parties. It is also learnt that an SIT has been formed to look into the issue. 

After the meeting, Amritpal Singh said he had been given an assurance that Lovepreet alias Toofan would be released. At the same time, he said they would take this in writing that the police authorities would not take any action in today's incident. He also assured to maintain peace.

He said the police had given an assurance to cancel the FIR against Toofan. Till then, they would continue with 'Amrit Sanchar' in the town. He said they would go only after Toofan was released. He blamed the police for today's action saying a false case was slapped on their associate. He said the police allegedly tortured their associate.   

Although a heavy police was deployed at the spot and on the route towards the Ajnala police station, supporters of Amritpal from different parts of the state managed to reach the spot.

The case 

A case was registered against Amritpal Singh and his supporters for allegedly kidnapping and thrashing Varinder Singh of Ropar district. Later, Amritpal announced to stage a protest at the Ajnala police station describing the case as false.

The police had arrested one of his supporters Toofan, who was sent to judicial custody.
