Light to moderate rain likely in parts of Punjab, Chandigarh till Feb 3; no weather alert issued
Rainfall chances, however, remain low in Amritsar, Gurdaspur, Ferozepur, Tarn Taran and Fazilka
PTC Web Desk: Several parts of Punjab and Chandigarh are expected to witness light to moderate rainfall from Saturday (January 31) till Tuesday, according to the Chandigarh Meteorological Department. However, no weather alert has been issued for the region.
On Saturday, light to moderate rain is likely at isolated places in Pathankot, Hoshiarpur, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar (Nawanshahr) and Rupnagar. Some districts also experienced morning fog, while the maximum temperature rose by one degree Celsius, bringing it closer to normal levels. The lowest minimum temperature in the state was recorded in Bathinda at 5.5°C.
The Met department said a western disturbance has reached the Himalayan region, while a cyclonic circulation is developing over Pakistan. Additionally, winds from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal are influencing the weather system, increasing the chances of rainfall in parts of Punjab and Haryana.
Rainfall chances remain low in Amritsar, Gurdaspur, Ferozepur, Tarn Taran and Fazilka. However, Hoshiarpur, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, Rupnagar, Ludhiana, Fatehgarh Sahib, Sangrur, Patiala, Mansa and Bathinda are likely to receive rain from the night of January 31 till February 2.
According to Surendra Pal Singh, Director of the Chandigarh Meteorological Centre, light to moderate rainfall may occur in some areas on February 1, while light rain is also possible at isolated places on January 31 and February 2. Night temperatures are expected to remain stable over the next 24 hours, after which the minimum temperature may rise by 3 to 4 degrees Celsius.
Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and strong winds blowing at a speed of 30–40 kmph are likely in parts of Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Sangrur, Fatehgarh Sahib, Rupnagar, Patiala and Mohali on February 1. Light to moderate rain is also expected at isolated places in Ferozepur, Fazilka, Faridkot, Muktsar, Moga, Bathinda, Barnala and Mansa.
