Mohali: Three killed, several injured in horrific road accident on PR-7 Airport Road

PTC Web  Desk: Three persons were killed and several others injured after a high-speed Fortuner SUV rammed into a stationary trolley near McD chowk in Zirakpur, Mohali district. The impact was so severe that the SUV was completely mangled, forcing rescuers to break its windows to pull out the occupants.

The Fortuner was carrying six persons, including two women and two children, who were travelling from Delhi airport to their village near Fatehgarh Sahib. The deceased have been identified as Amrik Singh (68), Balbir Singh (70) and Harjit Singh (35).

According to the police, the accident occurred when the SUV, allegedly travelling at an extremely high speed, crashed into a trolley parked on the roadside near Kaka Dhaba. Eyewitnesses claimed the vehicle was moving at over 150 kmph at the time of the collision. Due to the force of the impact, the Fortuner went under the trolley and was crushed beyond recognition.

A nearby auto-rickshaw was also hit in the collision, leaving two persons injured. They were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment and are reported to be stable.

Local residents and the road safety force reached the spot soon after the accident. Rescue operations were hampered as the roof of the SUV had caved in. Road Safety Force personnel broke the windows of the vehicle to extract the trapped passengers and rushed them to Dera Bassi Civil Hospital, where doctors declared three of them brought dead.

A case has been registered and further investigation is underway. Preliminary findings indicate over speeding as the primary cause of the fatal accident.
