Accused in Gurlal Brar murder case shot dead outside Mohali District Courts; Punjab law and order collapses
PTC Web Desk: An accused in the Gurlal Brar murder case, Gurvinder Singh alias Guri, was shot dead by two unidentified assailants outside the Mohali district court complex on Wednesday afternoon, triggering panic in the area.
According to the police, the attackers arrived on a motorcycle and opened fire on the victim when he stepped outside the court premises. The deceased, a resident of Rurki Kham village, had come to attend a court hearing along with his wife in an NDPS case. After firing multiple rounds, the assailants fled the spot on the same motorcycle.
Police officials said that at least 17 empty cartridges were recovered from the scene. A heavy police force was immediately deployed in and around the court complex, and checkpoints were set up in the district to trace the shooters. CCTV footage from nearby areas is being examined, and a manhunt has been launched.
The victim was an accused in the murder of Gurlal Brar, a former president of the Student Organisation of Panjab University (SOPU) and a cousin of Canada-based gangster Goldy Brar. Gurlal Brar was gunned down on October 10, 2020, outside the City Emporium Mall in Chandigarh.
The police are investigating possible gang rivalry and revenge angles behind the daylight killing. Further investigation is underway.
