Punjab Municipal Elections: HC tells Punjab Election Commission to ensure adequate security at polling booths
There will be videography of entire election process to ensure transparency and fairness
PTC Web Desk: The Punjab and Haryana High Court has directed the Punjab Election Commission to ensure sufficient deployment of security personnel at each polling booth during the upcoming Municipal Corporation elections. The court issued this order to maintain peace and prevent any fraudulent activities during the voting process.
Earlier, the High Court had instructed the Election Commission to conduct videography of the entire election process to ensure transparency and fairness.
The Punjab and Haryana High Court's decision comes in response to petitions filed seeking proper security arrangements at polling booths to allow voters to cast their ballots freely and without any intimidation. The petitioners highlighted concerns over incidents of violence and voter harassment during the Panchayat elections, urging that such situations should not recur.
The petitioners said voters must be able to vote in a secure environment, without fear of coercion. They requested the court to ensure the deployment of adequate police forces at every polling booth to safeguard voters and maintain order on election day.
