23-year-old youth shot dead in broad daylight in Punjab’s Hoshiarpur
PTC Web Desk: A 22-year-old youth, identified as Abdul Mohammad, was shot dead in broad daylight while riding pillion on his friend’s Activa scooter near Hariana town in Punjab’s Hoshiarpur district on Tuesday, sending shockwaves across the region.
According to police and eyewitness accounts, the assailants arrived in a white Alto car and opened fire at Abdul on a bridge near Hariana, firing between five and seven rounds. Several bullets struck the victim, leaving him critically injured.
Abdul, a resident of Kangmai village, was on his way to a gym in Hariana when the attack took place. His companion and locals rushed him to the Civil Hospital in Hoshiarpur on a scooter, but doctors declared him dead on arrival.
The victim’s friend told reporters that Abdul had no known enmity with anyone and had never received any threat calls. “We got information about the firing and immediately reached the spot. We took him to the hospital, but he could not be saved,” he said.
The killing comes a day after the murder of kabaddi player and promoter Rana Balachauria during a kabaddi tournament in Sohana, Mohali, raising serious concerns over the rising incidents of gun violence in Punjab.
The police have launched an investigation and are examining CCTV footage from the area to identify the attackers. A case has been registered, and efforts are on to trace the occupants of the white Alto car involved in the shooting.
