Punjab tragedy: Power worker electrocuted to death in Nabha; mother dies after listening news; JE booked

PTC Web Desk:  A power department employee posted on transfer duty died after being electrocuted while carrying out repair work at Babarpur village of Nabha subdivision in Punjab. The tragedy deepened when the victim’s mother also passed away shortly after, reportedly unable to bear the shock of her son’s sudden death.

According to the police, the deceased lineman, identified as Sanjeev Kumar, was repairing a transformer in Babarpur on Monday afternoon when he suffered a fatal electric shock. Family members have alleged that the incident occurred due to negligence on the part of Junior Engineer (JE) Harpreet Singh.

Based on a complaint lodged by the victim’s father, the police have registered a case against the accused JE. The family has alleged that the lineman was asked to climb the transformer without obtaining the mandatory permit and without ensuring that the power supply had been shut down.

It is learnt that the transformer was allegedly live at the time of repair, leading to the fatal accident.

As news of Sanjeev Kumar’s death reached his residence, his mother, Shimlo Rani, collapsed and later died due to severe shock. The back-to-back deaths have plunged the family into deep mourning.

Confirming the development, investigating officer Gurpreet Singh said a case has been registered on the basis of statements given by the deceased employee’s family members.

“The family has accused JE Harpreet Singh of negligence, claiming that the lineman was sent for repair work without proper permission. The matter is under investigation and efforts are on to trace the accused,” the police official said.
