PTC Web Desk: The Punjab Police have issued strict new guidelines after a surge in social media videos showing police personnel performing dance, bhangra and entertainment content while in uniform. The department said such acts damage the force’s image and will no longer be tolerated.

The DGP’s office has directed all Range IGs, DIGs, Commissioners of Police and District SSPs to take immediate disciplinary action against anyone violating the rules.

The State Cyber Crime Wing has been appointed as the nodal body to monitor suspicious social media activity. The wing will compile periodic reports and present them before the DGP in review meetings.

Officials said violations will directly impact an officer’s Annual Confidential Report (ACR), affecting future promotions and postings. The decision comes after several recent incidents involving Punjab Police personnel.

A woman constable in Bathinda went viral after posting a reel in uniform; she was later arrested in a drug case. In Mohali, heroin was recovered during a car-wash incident linked to another viral reel. These cases reportedly pushed the department to impose strict restrictions to safeguard its reputation.

Under the new guidelines, posting dance, bhangra or entertainment videos/reels on social media is strictly prohibited, especially in uniform. Displaying official weapons on any social media platform is completely banned. Creating reels or photos using official vehicles or equipment is not allowed. Any photo or video with criminals or gangsters will result in strict action. Posting any video in uniform is banned, regardless of the nature of content. Sharing confidential or official information online is forbidden. Any activity that damages the department’s image will attract disciplinary action.
