Two accused in AAP sarpanch Harpinder Singh murder case injured in Tarn Taran police encounter
PTC Web Desk: Two men accused in the murder of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) sarpanch Harpinder Singh were injured during a police encounter in Punjab’s Tarn Taran district on Wednesday morning.
According to officials, the gunfight took place near Jalloke village in the Patti area after the suspects allegedly opened fire on a police team. The officers retaliated, leading to an exchange of bullets in which both accused sustained injuries. They were later shifted to a hospital for treatment. The police confirmed that pistols were recovered from their possession. Forensic teams also visited the site to collect evidence.
The accused are allegedly involved in the killing of AAP sarpanch Harpinder Singh, who was shot dead on February 18 during a wedding function at Sher village in the Patti constituency. The broad daylight murder had sent shockwaves through the region.
Police officials said investigations into the murder remain ongoing, with efforts focused on identifying the full conspiracy behind the attack.
Earlier arrest in the case
The development follows an earlier encounter on February 22 in Naushehra Pannuan, where the police apprehended the main accused, Sharanpreet. He had been named in the FIR related to the sarpanch’s killing.
Sharanpreet, a resident of Khadoor Sahib area, was reportedly present at the wedding ceremony at the time of the murder. His arrest marked a significant breakthrough in the case.
Police officials stated that once the injured accused recover, they will be taken into custody for detailed questioning.
