PTC Web Desk:  Dr Pavneet Kaur Kingra, meteorological expert from Punjab State Agricultural University, has issued a dense fog alert for December 20 and 21 across several regions of Punjab. This precautionary yellow alert, issued by the Meteorological Department, comes amidst discernible weather alterations observed over the past year.

Dr Pavneet Kaur Kingra underscored a notable upsurge in recent temperatures, marking the maximum temperature at 20.8 degrees Celsius compared to the average of 19.9 degrees Celsius. In addition, today's minimum temperature recorded stands at 7.4 degrees Celsius, contrasting with the last year's average minimum of 6.4 degrees Celsius and a significant deviation from 13 degrees Celsius in 2021. These figures portray a substantial fluctuation from the readings of 20.7 degrees Celsius last year, 21.6 degrees Celsius in 2021, 2.2 degrees Celsius in 2020, and 10.4 degrees Celsius in 2013.

Highlighting the impact of pollution and global warming, she emphasised the substantial alterations in weather patterns. Additionally, she cautioned about the potential for a significant temperature drop in the forthcoming days. This concern has led the Meteorological Department to issue a preemptive yellow alert for dense fog on December 20th and 21.
