PTC Web Desk: Mohali SSP Harmandeep Singh Hans, while addressing a press conference on Tuesday, categorically ruled out any connection between the murder of kabaddi player and promoter Kunwar Digvijay Singh alias Rana Balachauria and the killing of late Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala.

SSP Hans said as per preliminary investigation, the motive behind the killing was to assert control over kabaddi activities, and not linked to the Moosewala murder case. He said three shooters were involved in the attack during a kabaddi tournament in Sohana village, Mohali.

“Out of the three shooters, two have been identified, while efforts are underway to trace the third accused,” SSP Hans said. The assailants used .30 bore weapons in the attack. As many as 12 police teams have been constituted to track down the suspects.

According to the police, the shooters have links with gangster Dony Bal and are associated with the Jaggu Bhagwanpuria gang. One of the accused has been identified as Pathak, a resident of Amritsar, while the second accused is Aditya Kapoor, also from Amritsar, against whom 13 FIRs have already been registered.

The SSP further clarified that, so far, there is no evidence suggesting the involvement of Shaganpreet in the case.

The clarification comes a day after a purported social media post by gangsters claimed responsibility for Rana Balachauria’s murder, alleging it was an act of revenge for Sidhu Moosewala’s killing. The post had named several individuals and claimed that Balachauria had provided shelter to Moosewala’s killers.

However, the Mohali police have dismissed these claims, stating that the investigation does not support any linkage between the two cases and that such posts are often used to spread fear and misinformation.
