Amid farmers protest across the state against Farm laws 2020, the Punjab Farmers Union on Thursday announced that the Rail Roko agitation will continue till October 20.
Also, the Punjab Farmers Union said that they will escalate the protests against Farm laws 2020 until the anti-farmer laws are withdrawn.
During the meeting of Punjab Farmers, the ultimatum given to the Punjab government has been withdrawn. The farmers' protest will be held on October 17 where the effigies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi would be burnt across the state, the Farmers Union announced.
While addressing the media persons, one of the farmers' leaders said that now, they will not go to Delhi for talks but for agitation. He said that they will raise their voice against anybody who tries to come in their way.
He further announced that the further decision would be taken after another meeting scheduled to be held on October 20.
Punjab farmers protest was being staged following the passing of the Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Bill, 2020, the Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Bill, 2020, and Essential Commodities Act, in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, during the monsoon session of the Parliament.
Earlier in the month, Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh had appealed to agitating farmers to relax their ongoing Rail Roko agitation to allow goods trains to pass through, in the interest of the state and its people, including the farmers themselves.
