PTC Web Desk: The Punjab Police have busted a suspected terror module in a joint operation carried out by the Counter Intelligence unit in Jalandhar and SBS Nagar (Nawanshahr) Police. The operation led to the arrest of the alleged key accused and the recovery of an 86-P hand grenade.

According to the police, the timely action helped prevent a possible terror attack in Punjab. Investigators suspect that the accused was working on the instructions of foreign-based handlers and was preparing to carry out a major criminal or terror-related operation in the state.

Accused received grenade from dead drop location

The initial investigation has revealed that the arrested suspect was allegedly in direct contact with handlers based abroad. Police said he was receiving instructions from them regarding the planned operation in Punjab.

Investigators have also found that the accused allegedly collected the 86-P hand grenade from a dead drop location near Adampur in Jalandhar. The location was reportedly identified and used on the directions of the foreign handlers.

The recovery of the grenade has prompted the police to investigate the intended target and determine how the explosive was planned to be used.

FIR registered under BNS and Explosives Act

A case has been registered at Sadar Nawanshahr Police Station in SBS Nagar under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Explosives Act.

The police are preparing to produce the accused before a court and seek his remand. Investigators are expected to question him in detail to establish the complete network and identify other people linked to the suspected terror module.

Police investigate local and foreign links

The investigation is now focused on tracing both the backward and forward links of the network. Police teams are working to identify possible local associates, people involved in arranging funds and foreign-based handlers allegedly operating the module. Investigators are also trying to establish whether other people were involved in receiving, storing or transporting the grenade.

Another key part of the probe is to determine the intended target of the suspected attack and whether any specific public place or location had been identified.
