Massive sinkhole appears on Ludhiana's Kitchlu Nagar road, 20-foot-deep collapse sparks safety fears
PTC Web Desk: Panic gripped residents of Ludhiana's Kitchlu Nagar after a large section of the area's main road suddenly caved in, leaving behind a massive sinkhole that exposed underground sewer and utility pipelines. The incident has raised concerns about the safety of nearby homes and highlighted the city's ageing civic infrastructure.
The cave-in created a sinkhole measuring nearly 20 feet deep and around 30 feet long. The collapsed portion of the road extends up to the boundary of a nearby house, leaving the family living there worried about possible structural damage if the ground gives way further.
Residents gathered at the site soon after the incident, expressing concern over the condition of the road and the risk posed to surrounding properties.

Municipal Corporation Zonal Commissioner JS Sekhon said the road collapsed because of a decades-old sewer line running beneath it. He explained that repeated digging over the years by telecom and Internet service providers for laying cables had weakened the road structure and damaged the underground network.
Repair work has already begun. Municipal teams are currently stabilising the affected area and repairing the damaged sewer line before reconstructing the road.
The civic body said its immediate focus is to secure the house located next to the sinkhole and prevent any further collapse.
Officials added that once the underground infrastructure is repaired and declared safe, work to rebuild the damaged stretch of road will begin.
The incident brought traffic on the busy road to a standstill. Traffic police quickly reached the spot, barricaded the affected area and diverted vehicles to alternate routes. Police personnel deployed at the site said the restrictions have been put in place to ensure that no motorists or pedestrians enter the danger zone while repair work is in progress.
