Family accuses police of pressurising them to give consent for post mortem
The family has accused the police of forcibly taking away the body and now pressuring them to sign the consent forms for a postmortem.
A young man, Daljit Singh, died yesterday in Bhamme Kalan village of Mansa district, after which the police took custody of his body. The Mansa SSP had also claimed that the family had agreed to the postmortem.
However, Daljit Singh’s wife, Paramjit Kaur, and his sister, Amarjit Kaur, accused the police of using force. They alleged that the police were pressuring the family to allow the postmortem and trying to register the case as murder, while maintaining that Daljit had died due to drug consumption.

PTC News Desk: Tensions engulfed a village in Punjab's Mansa district after police used force to prevent locals from carrying the body of a man who allegedly died of a drug overdose to the site of an ongoing 15-day protest against the killing of anti-drug activist Parminder Singh Jhota in Mansa town.
Police however rejected drug-related angle and claimed he was murdered.
However, Mansa SSP Vaibhav Chaudhary rejected the claim that Daljit died of a drug overdose and described the incident as a murder case.
“Prima facie, this is a case of murder. Four people took Daljit away and threw his body from a vehicle. We have detained one person and are searching for three others,” Chaudhary said. He added that the exact cause of death would be confirmed after the viscera report.
The SSP said that Daljit’s body had been shifted to the mortuary at AIIMS Bathinda. He also said police were registering a separate attempt-to-murder case against some protesters who allegedly attacked police personnel with swords during the clash.
Meanwhile, police have arrested three accused in connection with Daljit’s death. A large police force has also been deployed at AIIMS Bathinda, where the body is being kept.
Bhim Singh appealed to people across Punjab to join the protest.
Angered by the police action, the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) Ekta Ugrahan announced plans to hold protests outside police stations on Wednesday and said its members would participate in the ongoing protest, or morcha, in large numbers.
