Moga firing: Two cousins shot dead, DGP Gaurav Yadav reaches spot and promises strict action
Moga: Two persons were shot dead and three others were badly hurt when men in a black Scorpio opened fire on a group outside their homes in Moga’s Angadpura area late on Sunday night. Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav reached the town on Monday to take stock of the situation.
Five persons were sitting outside their homes when the Scorpio pulled up, the police said. The men inside began firing without warning, and panic spread through the neighbourhood within seconds.
The dead are cousins Gagan Jindal (30) and Sahil Jindal (40). The injured were rushed to a hospital. The police have not yet confirmed how many rounds were fired, but eyewitnesses say the attackers shot around 15 to 20 times. Some of the injured were hit by bullets and some by pellets.

Old rivalry suspected
Early findings point to personal enmity. Investigators suspect a long-running rivalry between two groups may be behind the attack. The motive, however, has not been confirmed. The victims’ family has given police the names of a few suspects and statements are being recorded.
What the police are doing
Moga SSP Sartaj Singh Chahal said teams reached the spot soon after the incident was reported. “Prima facie, five persons were sitting outside their homes when a black Scorpio arrived and assailants inside opened fire. We have recovered three shells from the spot,” he said. He added that CCTV cameras near the area are being checked.
A forensic team has also collected evidence from the site.
DGP meets families
DGP Gaurav Yadav met the families of the two men who died and spoke to officers about the case. He said the police are looking at the matter from every angle and that nobody involved will be spared. The accused will be identified and strict action taken under the law, he said.
Opposition attacks the government
The incident has sparked political criticism. BJP leader Manjinder Singh Sirsa slammed the AAP government for failing to rein in gangsters and questioned Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal on law and order in the state. Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia and BJP leader Ravneet Singh Bittu also criticised the government and raised concerns about public safety.
