Rapist of girls under 12 to be awarded death penalty: MP Assembly

Madhya Pradesh Assembly on Monday unanimously approves bill awarding death penalty to rapists of girls under age 12.

"Those who rape 12-year-old girls are not humans, they are demons who don’t have the right to live,” Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Chouhan stated.

The Chief Minister added that repeated stalking will be a non-bailable offence.

The state Cabinet had last month passed the resolution that awards the death sentence to gang rape convicts has also been passed. The amendment in the penal code to increase the fine and punishment for rape convicts was also approved by the state cabinet.

Madhya Pradesh home minister Bhupendra Singh had stated that this move is being taken to curb the rising crimes against women in Madhya Pradesh.
