Matter of pride for Punjab as Gatka is included in 37th National Games

All India Gatka Federation expressed gratitude to Indian Olympic Association

Gatka is now National Sport: The inclusion of Gatka in the National Games by the Indian Olympic Association is a matter of pride for the entire Punjab.  All India Gatka Federation President Harcharan Singh Bhullar IPS and Punjab Gatka Association President Dr. Rajinder Singh Sohal expressed this view.

In a joint statement issued to the press, they said that the Indian Olympic Association has included Gatka as a national sport in the 37th National Games-2023 to be held in Goa in October this year.  Due to this big achievement, the players playing Gatka are very excited and happy.

Harcharan Singh Bhullar IPS said that the Gatka Federation of India has been making continuous efforts for a long time to take the Gatka game to this big stage and now finally their efforts have been successful.  With the recognition of Gatke as a National Game by the Indian Olympic Association, the game will reach new heights.


Dr. Rajinder Singh Sohal, President of the Punjab Gatka Association and Vice President of the Gatka Federation of India, expressed happiness and satisfaction over the inclusion of Gatka in the National Games.  He said that this would boost the morale of the players and open new avenues of success for them.

Baljinder Singh Toor, General Secretary Gatka Federation of India congratulated all the Gatka players and said that with the recognition of the game as the National Sport by the Indian Olympic Association, generations to come would feel even more proud to be associated with this heritage sport.

On this occasion, the Gatka Federation of India thanked the Indian Olympic Association, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Punjab Sports Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hair, Speaker Punjab Legislative Assembly Kultar Singh Sandhwa, Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur, President Indian Olympic Association and Rajya Sabha members PT Usha, Chairman of Sports Technical Affairs Committee Amitabh Sharma and other members.
