PTC Web Desk: In an unexpected turn of events, Sidhu Moosewala's parents, Charan Kaur and Balkaur Singh, aged 58 and 60 respectively, have reportedly adopted In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF) technology to welcome a new addition to their family,as per reports in various media handles. However, Sidhu Moosewala's parents have not issued any statement on it so far.

Let's learn more about IVF

IVF, or In Vitro Fertilisation, is a fertility treatment that assists couples struggling with conception. This process involves combining an egg and sperm outside the body to create embryos, which are then implanted in the uterus. It is particularly sought after by couples facing challenges such as infertility or difficulty conceiving through traditional methods.

The IVF Procedure

Ovulation Stimulation: The first step in IVF involves stimulating the ovaries to produce multiple eggs. This is done using fertility medications, closely monitored through hormonal tests and ultrasound.

Egg Retrieval: Once the eggs are mature, a minor surgical procedure is performed to retrieve them. This is typically done under sedation, and a thin needle is used to collect the eggs from the ovaries.

Fertilisation: The collected eggs are then fertilised with sperm in a laboratory setting. This can be achieved through traditional insemination or a more advanced method called Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI).

Embryo Culturing: The fertilised eggs, now embryos, are cultured in a controlled environment for a few days, allowing the embryologist to assess their quality.

Embryo Transfer: Healthy embryos are selected and transferred into the woman's uterus. This is a relatively simple and painless procedure.

Pregnancy Test: After the embryo transfer, a pregnancy test is conducted to determine the success of the procedure.

Age Limit for IVF

For IVF technology, there is no age limit or restriction for conception, although the success of IVF can be significantly influenced by a woman's age. The likelihood of success with IVF tends to decrease after the age of 35, primarily due to a decline in both the quantity and quality of eggs.

While there is no strict age limit for IVF, it is generally recommended for women under the age of 35 to increase the chances of success. The success rate of IVF is higher for women under 35 compared to those over 35.

Here is an approximate breakdown of success rates for IVF in India based on age:

28 years: 45-55%
31 years: 40-50%
35 years or less: 35-45%
40 years or more: 15-20%

It's essential to note that these success rates can vary based on various factors. Additionally, even though IVF is a viable option, counseling is often recommended for women considering IVF, especially those over 40, to discuss potential challenges and alternatives.

The success rate of IVF in India currently ranges from 70% to 80%, but it is dependent on several factors. The woman's age is a significant factor influencing success, as fertility declines with age. In cases where the woman is over 35, the likelihood of successful conception through IVF may decrease, making it more challenging to become pregnant.

It's important to consider that the success rate of IVF can vary based on individual circumstances, and consultation with a fertility specialist is recommended to discuss personalised options and expectations.
