Delhi Court denies transit remand of KTF operatives Amritpal and Amrik Singh to Punjab Police

New Delhi, June 12: A Delhi court has declined to grant transit remand to Amritpal Singh, alias Ammy, and Amrik Singh, alleged operatives of the banned terrorist group Khalistan Tiger Force (KTF), to the Punjab Police.

The court deemed the application as "belated" since the accused were already scheduled to appear before a court in Punjab based on a previously issued production warrant.

Duty Metropolitan Magistrate Isha Singh highlighted that the application was filed on the same day at 11:55 am, and even if granted, it would not allow enough time to produce the accused in court before 5 PM. The judge emphasized that if the intention was to produce the accused before the Jagraon court in Punjab, the investigating officer should have submitted the application in a timely manner.

Amritpal Singh and Amrik Singh, who allegedly have links to Canada-based terrorist Arshdeep Dhalla, are presently in judicial custody due to a case registered by the National Investigation Agency (NIA). The Punjab Police sought their transit remand in connection with an extortion case filed at the Jagraon Sadar police station in Ludhiana.

The case, registered in January 2023, involves charges related to extortion, the Arms Act, and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

The accused were arrested at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi by the NIA under the UAPA after being deported from Manila, the capital of the Philippines, on May 19. They are alleged to be involved in recruiting individuals for the KTF, as well as smuggling arms and ammunition and raising funds for the organization.

On June 6, the court had placed Amritpal Singh and Amrik Singh in judicial custody.
