CoWIN data leak: Data safe, reports of data breach baseless, clarifies Health ministry

CoWIN data leak: The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has issued a statement following after reports claiming that the personal data of those registered on CoWIN portal had been leaked on Telegram. '"All such reports are without any basis and mischievous in nature. CoWIN...is completely safe with adequate safeguards for data privacy," the ministry said in a statement, adding that all steps were being taken to ensure the security of the CoWIN data.

In a statement, the Ministry of Heath and Family Welfare said there were reports in the media claiming that CoWIN data had been leaked on Telegram. "It is clarified that all such reports are without any basis and mischievous nature," the statement added. The statement further added that the CoWIN portal of the government was "safe" with adequate safeguards for data privacy.



"Furthermore, security measures are in place on Co-WIN portal, with Web Application Firewall, Anti-DDoS, SSL/TLS, regular vulnerability assessment, Identity & Access Management etc. Only OTP authentication-based access of data is provided. All steps have been taken and are being taken to ensure security of the data in the CoWIN portal, the statement added.

CoWIN was developed and is owned and managed by MoHFW. An Empowered Group on Vaccine Administration (EGVAC) was formed for steering the development of CoWIN and for deciding on policy issues. Former CEO National Health Authority (NHA), chaired EGVAC, which also included members from MoHFW and MeitY.
