Manali viral video: A viral video allegedly showing a tourist inappropriately touching a foreign woman while she was walking on a busy street in Manali has triggered widespread outrage and renewed concerns about the safety of women tourists in the popular hill destination.

The video, which has been widely shared on social media, appears to show the woman reacting with shock after the incident. The footage has drawn sharp criticism from netizens, with many demanding strict action against the accused and stronger measures to ensure tourist safety.

Police officials said no formal complaint had been lodged in connection with the incident so far, and therefore no legal action had been initiated. However, local residents and stakeholders from the tourism sector have urged authorities to take suo motu cognisance of the matter.

The incident has also brought attention to previous crimes involving foreign women in Manali, including cases of rape and sexual assault reported over the past decade.

To improve tourist security, Himachal Pradesh has introduced initiatives such as the SHE Travel Policy, featuring a dedicated SOS safety app, certified safe accommodation facilities and female marshals. The Union Tourism Ministry also operates a 24x7 multilingual tourist helpline, though awareness about these services remains limited among many visitors.
