Pathankot: Mess worker 'attacks' woman IAF officer at her residence, officer sustains serious injuries

Accused intruded into officer's house on Monday night with intent to rob, resulting in serious consequences

Chandigarh, July 18: A woman Indian Air Force (IAF) officer sustained severe injuries after an alleged attack by a mess worker at her official residence in Punjab's Pathankot district. The incident took place on Monday night, according to police reports on Tuesday.

The accused, identified as Makhan Singh, gained unauthorised entry into the officer's house with the intention to commit robbery. The officer, a Squadron Leader, was asleep and woke up upon hearing noise. Upon confronting the intruder, she was attacked with a knife, resulting in multiple injuries, as stated by Pathankot SSP Harkamalpreet Singh Khakh.

The swift apprehension of the accused was made possible through CCTV footage assistance. The woman officer was alone at home during the incident. Another woman IAF officer residing nearby noticed the victim's injured state when she went to her residence and promptly sought assistance, as per the police official.

The injured officer was immediately rushed to a local hospital and later referred to the Army's Command Hospital in Chandimandir, Haryana, for further treatment. The accused has been apprehended and charged with attempted murder. Ongoing investigations continue to shed light on the case.

Police have revealed that the accused resided in close proximity to the victim's house, indicating a potential connection to the incident.
