Americas nicest judge, Frank Caprio dies at 88 after prolonged cancer battle

PTC News Desk: Judge Frank Caprio, celebrated globally for his compassion and humility on the bench, has passed away at the age of 88 after a prolonged battle with pancreatic cancer. The Rhode Island judge gained international recognition through viral social media clips that highlighted his empathetic and humane approach to justice.


Just hours before his passing, Caprio shared an emotional message on Instagram, thanking well-wishers for their support and asking them to keep him in their prayers. He had publicly revealed his diagnosis in November 2023 and underwent six months of chemotherapy along with five rounds of radiation. In May 2024, he marked the end of his treatment by ringing the healing bell at the Miami Cancer Institute, receiving a standing ovation from family and medical staff.




In a statement, the Caprio family made public his peaceful demise, describing him as a man who was very strong in believing in people's goodness. “Beloved for his compassion, humility, and unwavering belief in the goodness of people, Judge Caprio touched the lives of millions through his work in the courtroom and beyond. His warmth, humor, and kindness left an indelible mark on all who knew him.”



Caprio first rose to prominence through his long-running local TV program Caught in Providence, which later found worldwide popularity online. Known for his gentle humour and principled judgments, he became an admired figure across the globe, cherished for bringing humanity into the courtroom.
