Indian official urges G20 countries to focus on evidence-based research in health systems

Washington, May 1: Amitabh Kant, India's G20 Sherpa, has called for collaboration and evidence-based research among G20 countries to ensure preparedness in health systems and build adaptable global supply chains that can deliver instantaneously during a crisis. 

This comes ahead of the annual India-US BioPharma and Healthcare Summit, where scientists, academicians, corporate leaders, and officials from both countries will be in attendance.

The 17th annual BioPharma and Healthcare Summit, organised by the USA-India Chamber of Commerce, will be held virtually on May 3. Kant emphasised that G20 member countries share an equal responsibility for ensuring robust and resilient health systems to provide health security to citizens. He added that the Research and Innovation Initiative Gathering (RIIG), Science20, and Startup20 under G20 aim to achieve socio-economic equity through research, innovation, partnership, and collaboration.

Kant also stressed the importance of global collaboration and partnership in drug and vaccine development, clinical research, streamlining workflows, and inventory management to mitigate risks and allow seamless delivery of healthcare services. The conference will feature speakers such as Dr Vinod Paul, Member, NITI Aayog, Kiran Mazumdar Shaw, Dr Naresh Trehan, Dr Shiv Sarin, and Dr Krishna Ella, among others.
