Indian-origin family's death mystery solved; man murdered wife & daughter, then killed self
PTC News Desk: After an autopsy, medical authorities determined that the deaths of a wealthy Indian-origin couple and their daughter in the US state of Massachusetts last week were a murder-suicide.
On December 28, 2023, Rakesh Kamal, 57, his wife Teena Kamal, 54, and their 18-year-old daughter Arianna Kamal were found dead in their USD 5 million mansion in Dover, Massachusetts.
A firearm was found close to Rakesh Kamal.
According to a press release issued by Norfolk District Attorney Michael Morrissey's office on Tuesday, autopsy results from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner confirmed that Teena and her daughter Arianna were victims of homicide by gunshot.
Rakesh died as a result of a "self-inflicted gunshot wound." The final autopsy report is expected to be completed within the next few weeks.
While full forensic and ballistics testing of the gun has not been completed, the firearm found with Rakesh is consistent with a. 40-calibre Glock 22.
The firearm, however, was not registered in Rakesh's name, and "he was not licenced to possess it," according to the release.
The Massachusetts State Police have requested assistance from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives in determining the origin of the firearm. Dover and Massachusetts State Police are still investigating the incident.
Morrissey stated last week that the initial investigation revealed that the incident was a case of domestic violence and that no outside parties were involved.
At approximately 7:24 p.m. on December 28, Dover Police received a 911 call requesting a response to the Kamal residence from a family member who had stopped by to check on the family.
When the police arrived, they found the Kamal family dead. Investigators had been at the crime scene for most of the night.
Dover is about 32 kilometres southwest of Boston, Massachusetts' capital.
