Israeli airstrike on Gaza’s Nasser hospital leaves three journalists among 15 dead
Nasser Hospital, largest medical facility in Khan Younis, has faced repeated raids and bombardments throughout 22-month conflict
PTC Web Desk: At least 15 persons, including three journalists, were killed on Monday when an Israeli airstrike hit the fourth floor of Nasser Hospital in southern Gaza, according to Gaza’s health ministry. Among the dead were a journalist from Al Jazeera and another from Reuters.
The ministry said the casualties resulted from a “double-tap” strike, with a second missile launched moments after the first, hitting as rescue teams rushed to assist victims. Israel’s military has not yet issued an official response to the incident.
Although Israel has not publicly acknowledged targeting hospitals during its ongoing campaign in Gaza, several medical facilities have been struck. Israel maintains that Hamas fighters operate from inside such locations, justifying the strikes as military actions.
Nasser Hospital, the largest medical facility in Khan Younis, has faced repeated raids and bombardments throughout the 22-month conflict. A previous strike in June killed three persons and injured 10. At that time, Israel’s military claimed it targeted a Hamas command centre inside the hospital.
The health ministry in Gaza reported on Sunday that the conflict has claimed at least 62,686 Palestinian lives so far. While it does not distinguish between fighters and civilians, it estimates that around half of the victims were women and children. The United Nations and independent analysts consider these figures the most credible available, though Israel disputes the numbers and has not released its own casualty data.
