Three children killed in blast in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, probe underway
Three children were killed and two injured in a motorcycle bomb explosion in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. The attack comes amid rising militant activity in the region
Pakistan blast news: At least three children lost their lives and two others sustained injuries after an explosion rocked a residential area in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province late Wednesday night, officials said.
The incident took place in the Ghwa Khwa locality of Lower South Waziristan, a region close to the Afghan border. According to the police, an explosive device planted in a motorcycle went off outside a house, triggering panic in the neighbourhood.
The deceased have been identified as 15-year-old Shah Hussain, seven-year-old Sanaya Bibi and eight-year-old Soreen Bibi. The injured children were immediately shifted to Headquarters Hospital Wana, where they are undergoing treatment.
Preliminary findings suggest that an unidentified person had parked the motorcycle outside the residence of a local man, Saddam Hussain, shortly before the explosion. Security forces cordoned off the area soon after the blast and began collecting evidence to trace those responsible.
Second attack within a week
The latest incident comes days after another attack in the province. In the Mamond area of Bajaur district, suspected militants reportedly used a quadcopter drone to target people gathered at a cricket ground. Three children were injured in that strike.
Officials linked the attackers to Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), referred to by Pakistani authorities as Fitna al-Khawarij.
Rising violence in the region
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has witnessed a surge in violence in recent months. In February, multiple coordinated attacks, including bomb blasts and gunfire, claimed over 10 lives across the province.
One of the major incidents involved an explosives-laden vehicle hitting a security checkpoint in Bajaur, killing several security personnel along with a child. On the same day, another blast near a police station in Bannu left multiple casualties and injuries.
