PTC News Desk: Pakistan's Supreme Court has directed immediate transfer of jailed ex Prime Minister Imran Khan to Islamabad’s Shifa International Hospital for medical amid concerns over his health.

The court rejected government's objections and directed that Khan to be moved to Shifa International Hospital within 48 hours. A medical board including Khan's personal doctor and his sister, Dr Aleema Khan will also be constituted to evaluate his health.

The court also directed that Khan will himself bear all the expenses of hospital treatment himself.

"It is a very welcome order, and we wish it had happened sooner so his eye and general health would not have deteriorated this much," Zulfiqar Ali Bukhari, Khan's close aide and adviser, said in a statement.

The court's order comes a day after the authorities at Adiala Jail dismissed the allegations that Khan had died in police custody and said that he is in good health.

Meanwhile, Khan is expected to be shifted to Shifa International Hospital today. Dr Faisal Sultan and Dr Azma Khan are to accompany him to the hospital as part of the medical arrangements.

The development follows persistent concerns over Khan's health in particular his eyesight.

Khan's health report

A medical report submitted to Pakistan’s Supreme Court detailed several health issues reported by jailed former prime minister Imran Khan, including high blood pressure, severe mental stress, restlessness, a rapid heartbeat and headaches. During the examination, his blood pressure was recorded at 140/100 mmHg, compared to 120/80 mmHg during an examination in February 2026.

On Monday, jail authorities told Pakistan’s Supreme Court that 73-year-old former prime minister Imran Khan’s eyesight had improved significantly after treatment and was now “almost normal”. However, Khan’s family and his party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), questioned the claim. Earlier this year, his lawyer had said that Khan had lost around 85% of vision in his right eye.

The medical report submitted by Adiala Jail also listed several health concerns, including fluctuating blood pressure, severe mental stress, restlessness, a rapid heartbeat and headaches. His blood pressure was recorded at 140/100 mmHg during the latest examination, compared to 120/80 mmHg in February 2026.

The medical board has also advised Khan to undertake measures that help reduce stress and anxiety including longer meetings with his wife and access to suitable reading material.
