26-year-old Indian techie dies after pickup truck rams into car in US
PTC News Desk: A 26-year-old software engineer from Andhra Pradesh died in Ohio, United States, after he was involved in a severe collision in Macedonia.
The deceased has been identified as Dileep Kumar Bungatavula, 26.
Police said Dileep Kumar Bungatavula was driving a sedan when it was hit by a pickup truck travelling in the opposite direction.
Bungatavula was a native of Jettivaripalli village in Andhra Pradesh’s Kadapa district. He had travelled to the United States for higher studies at Kent State University and completed his Master of Science degree in 2025.
The Accident
The accident took place on Interstate 480 in the Macedonia area of Ohio. According to police, Bungatavula was driving when a pickup truck coming from the opposite direction crossed the centre median and crashed into his car.
Emergency responders reached the spot and found that Bungatavula had died at the scene. Three other people were injured in the crash and were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
India Reacts
The Consulate General of India in New York confirmed the Indian man's death and said it was extending all possible assistance to his family back home.
"We are deeply saddened to learn of the untimely demise of Dileep Kumar Bungatavula, an Indian national, who tragically lost his life in a car accident in Ohio on August 7, 2026," the consulate said in a post on X.
"Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with his family during this difficult time. The Consulate is in touch with the family and is extending all possible assistance," it added.
