Sandy Sonu Dosanjh has been removed from the Conservative Party of Surrey’s 2026 election slate after her husband, Vancouver police officer Kal Dosanjh, was charged with fraud, theft and breach of trust
PTC Web Desk: Sandy Sonu Dosanjh has been dropped from the Conservative Party of Surrey’s list of candidates for the 2026 Surrey municipal election following criminal charges against her husband, Vancouver Police Department officer Kalwinder Singh (Kal) Dosanjh.
Sandy Dosanjh had been running for a seat on Surrey City Council as part of the Conservative Party of Surrey slate, which is being led by mayoral candidate Honveer Randhawa.
The party confirmed her removal on September 4.
Party says decision was about public confidence
David Denhoff, president of the Conservative Electors Association and Conservative Party of Surrey, said the decision was taken after considering concerns surrounding public confidence.
Denhoff said Randhawa acted quickly and that the move was intended to place the interests of Surrey residents and public trust first.
He also stressed that removing Sandy Dosanjh from the slate did not mean the party was assigning guilt to her.
The party separately appealed for privacy for Dosanjh and her family as they deal with the situation.

Who is Sandy Sonu Dosanjh?
Sandy Dosanjh is described as a fitness and lifestyle advocate, businesswoman and mother. She originally comes from Talwandi Madho in Punjab’s Jalandhar district, near Nakodar.
She married Kal Dosanjh in 2004 and moved to Surrey in 2010.
Her entry into municipal politics came ahead of the 2026 Surrey election, where she had joined the Conservative Party of Surrey’s candidate slate.
Who is Kal Dosanjh?
Kalwinder Singh Dosanjh is a longtime Vancouver police officer with more than 25 years of service. He has worked in several roles during his career, including as a senior detective with the department’s Financial Crimes Unit.
He was most recently associated with the traffic section.
Dosanjh was arrested on September 3 and faces four counts of fraud, four counts of theft over $5,000 and one count of breach of trust by a public officer.
According to the BC Prosecution Service, the alleged offences are said to have occurred between December 2017 and July 2025 in Vancouver, Surrey or other locations in British Columbia.
The police said most of the alleged victims were community members and investors. Dosanjh and his co-accused, Sarabjit Singh Gill, are both Surrey residents and were business associates at the time of the alleged offences.
Authorities said the allegations involve housing developments, while some are also connected to a foundation established by Dosanjh.
KidsPlay foundation and community work
Dosanjh founded the KidsPlay foundation in 2015, following years of working on patrol in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside.
The organisation was created to provide sports and community opportunities to children from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Dosanjh had earlier spoken about seeing young people lacking access to the same opportunities as others. Through organised sports programmes, he aimed to encourage children to stay away from drugs, gangs and violence.
After moving to Surrey, he worked to expand the initiative there through KidsPlay.

The charges against Kal Dosanjh remain allegations at this stage. None of the accusations have been proven in court.
