PTC News Desk: Several people were killed and many others injured after an explosion at a luxury bar in Switzerland sparked a massive fire during New Year’s Eve celebrations, according to local reports.

The blast occurred at the Le Constellation Bar and Lounge in the ski resort town of Crans-Montana. Authorities have not yet confirmed the cause of the explosion. While some Swiss media suggested it may have been triggered by fireworks during a concert, police said the reason remains unknown.

Videos shared online showed thick smoke pouring out of the bar after the incident. “There has been an explosion of unknown origin. Several people are injured, and several have died,” police spokesperson Gaetan Lathion told AFP. A helpline has been set up for families of those affected.

The incident comes as Switzerland has been dealing with forest fires due to an unusually dry period. Crans-Montana, a popular tourist destination in the Swiss Alps known for skiing, snowboarding and golf, is located about two hours from the capital, Bern.
