Sikh woman sexual assault case in UKs Oldbury: One of two accused arrested
The West Midlands police confirmed that a man in his 30s was taken into custody on Sunday evening
PTC Web Desk: A man has been arrested in connection with the alleged sexual assault of a Sikh woman in her 20s in Oldbury, UK. The woman had reported being sexually assaulted by two white men in the Tame Road area on September 9.
The West Midlands police confirmed that a man in his 30s was taken into custody on Sunday evening. He is currently being held on suspicion of sexual assault as investigations are underway.
Chief Superintendent Kim Madill of the Sandwell police called the arrest a “significant development” in the case. She expressed gratitude to the local community for their support and urged the public not to speculate while the inquiry continues.
Following the incident, members of the Sikh community gathered outside Guru Nanak Gurdwara in Smethwick on Sunday. Several people attended the peaceful assembly, offering prayers for the young woman before visiting the site of the alleged attack.
Local councillor Parbinder Kaur was among those present. Speaking to Sky News, she said she attended “as a woman, a other, and a grandmother,” showing solidarity with the victim.
The survivor, who has the legal right to anonymity, issued a statement through Sikh Youth UK, a community support group.
