Thermos recalls over 8 million food jars and bottles after safety hazard injures consumers
Thermos recalls over 8 million food jars and bottles after defective stoppers caused injuries, including vision loss. Check affected models and safety details
PTC Web Desk: Global brand Thermos has issued a large-scale product recall involving more than 8 million food jars and beverage bottles following serious safety concerns linked to faulty stoppers. The move comes after multiple incidents where the lids reportedly popped off with force, injuring users.
As per details released by the US Consumer Product Safety Commission, the recall affects around 5.8 million Stainless King Food Jars and nearly 2.3 million Sportsman Food & Beverage Bottles. These items were sold over a long period, from March 2008 to July 2024, across major retail platforms, including Walmart, Amazon, and Target.
The company acknowledged receiving at least 27 complaints from consumers who were hit by stoppers that unexpectedly shot out while opening the containers. Some users sustained deep cuts that required medical treatment, while in three reported cases, individuals suffered permanent damage to their eyesight.
Investigations suggest that the issue stems from a design flaw in the stopper, which does not include a pressure-release feature. As a result, pressure can accumulate inside the container, especially when storing hot contents, and may release suddenly when opened.
The recall includes Stainless King Food Jars (models SK3000 and SK3020) produced before July 2023, as well as all units of the Sportsman Food & Beverage Bottles (model SK3010). These products are available in various colours and can be identified by the Thermos branding on the body and model numbers printed at the base.
Consumers who own these items have been advised to stop using them immediately. The company has offered free replacement stoppers equipped with a pressure-release system or, in some cases, a complete product replacement.
