Tulsi Gabbard alleges Anthony Fauci funded Wuhan research and misled Congress on Covid origins
Former US intelligence chief Tulsi Gabbard has accused Anthony Fauci of funding coronavirus research at China's Wuhan Institute of Virology and misleading Congress about Covid-19 origins. Fauci has not yet responded to the claims
PTC Web Desk: Former US Director of National Intelligence (DNI) Tulsi Gabbard has accused former top health official Dr Anthony Fauci of helping fund coronavirus research at China's Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV) and misleading Congress about his involvement in discussions related to the origins of COVID-19.
The allegations were made on Thursday when Gabbard released what she described as "previously undisclosed" documents on her final day in office.
Today, on my final day as Director of National Intelligence, I’m releasing never-before-seen communications and documents exposing how Dr. Fauci provided millions in US taxpayer dollars to fund dangerous gain-of-function research at the Wuhan lab, worked with politicized elements… pic.twitter.com/ZMdliW4zyS

Claims about Wuhan research funding
According to Gabbard's office, Fauci oversaw the approval of millions of dollars in US taxpayer funding for research on bat coronaviruses at the Wuhan Institute of Virology.
The statement claimed that the research involved "gain-of-function" studies, which can involve altering viruses to better understand how they spread or become more dangerous.
Gabbard's office argued that this research may have been linked to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Allegations of influencing intelligence findings
Gabbard also alleged that Fauci influenced intelligence assessments regarding the origin of COVID-19.
According to the statement, Fauci worked with selected scientists and experts whose views supported the theory that the virus originated naturally from animals rather than from a laboratory accident.
Her office claimed that opposing views and evidence supporting the lab-leak theory were not given proper consideration.
Accusations of misleading Congress
Another major allegation concerns Fauci's testimony before Congress in June 2024. Gabbard's office said Fauci denied having knowledge of or involvement in discussions with US intelligence agencies regarding COVID-related viral research.
The statement claimed that newly released documents and whistleblower testimony contradict those statements.
Claims of pressure on dissenting analysts
The statement further alleged that intelligence analysts who questioned official conclusions about the virus's origins faced pressure, professional setbacks or were sidelined.
According to Gabbard's office, this created an environment where alternative viewpoints were discouraged and important evidence was overlooked.
Gabbard calls for transparency
Commenting on the issue, Gabbard said the public deserves full transparency about the origins of COVID-19 and the decisions made during the pandemic.
She accused Fauci and other officials of covering up information and manipulating intelligence findings to protect themselves from scrutiny.
"The American people deserve transparency, truth and accountability," Gabbard said.
No response from Fauci yet
As of now, Anthony Fauci has not publicly responded to the allegations made by Gabbard or the documents released by her office.
