PTC Web Desk: A series of explosions were reported late at night in Dubai's Jebel Ali industrial area, with videos circulating on social media showing massive plumes of black smoke rising into the sky. The blasts triggered concern among residents and prompted widespread speculation about what caused the incident.

According to Iran's Mehr news agency, which cited Emirati officials, at least seven explosions were heard within a span of around 20 minutes. However, authorities in the United Arab Emirates have not yet released an official statement explaining the cause of the explosions.

Reports of arrests after incident

The same report claimed that two persons were taken into custody for filming the incident. There has been no independent confirmation from UAE authorities regarding the reported arrests.

Questions remain over cause of the explosions

Officials have not confirmed whether the explosions were the result of an industrial accident or a deliberate attack. Some Iraqi media outlets claimed that the UAE may have come under a missile attack launched from Yemen amid the ongoing tensions linked to the US-Iran conflict. However, these claims have not been officially verified, and Emirati authorities have not attributed the incident to any attack.

NASA data points to warehouse fire

Adding another dimension to the investigation, NASA's thermal imaging reportedly detected intense heat at a warehouse located near Jebel Ali Port. The facility is believed to have been used for fuel storage and transfer, suggesting that a major fire may have broken out at the site.

There has been no official confirmation linking the warehouse fire to the explosions.

Residents heard loud blasts

Videos shared online captured thick black smoke spreading across the night sky near residential areas. People living in nearby Al Furjan told local media that they heard several loud thuds around the same time the explosions were reported.

As of now, authorities have not released any information about casualties, injuries or the extent of property damage.

Why Jebel Ali is strategically important

Jebel Ali lies about 25 miles southwest of Dubai's city centre and is one of the UAE's most important commercial and logistics hubs. The area is home to Palm Jebel Ali, a large artificial island project, and the Jebel Ali Free Zone, which operates alongside one of the world's largest man-made harbours and plays a vital role in international shipping and trade.

UAE remains on alert amid regional tensions

The incident comes at a time of heightened security across the UAE due to ongoing regional instability and tensions surrounding the US-Iran conflict. The country has remained on alert over concerns that Tehran-backed groups could target American allies in the Gulf.

With investigations continuing, officials are expected to provide further details once the exact cause of the explosions is determined.
