Simarjeet Singh Bains from Lok Insaaf Party (LIP) won the last assembly elections and is the current MLA of Atam Nagar. He won the 2017 elections by defeating his nearest opponent Kamaljit Singh Karwal of Congress with a margin of 16,913 votes.
