British High Commissioner to India pays homage at Jallianwala Bagh but didn’t apologize British High Commissioner to India, Sir Dominic Asquith, laid a wreath at Jallianwala Bagh memorial in Amritsar on Saturday to pay homage to the people who were massacred by Britishers on April 13, 1919. Although he deeply regretted on “what happened and the suffering caused”, but he didn’t apologise. We deeply regret what happened and the suffering caused. I am pleased that the UK and India have remained committed to developing further a thriving 21st Century partnership.” April 13 marks the 100th anniversary of the massacre in which British forces led by Brigadier General Reginald Dyer opened fire on hundreds of innocent Indians including children and women. They were protesting peacefully against the oppressive Rowlatt Act of the British government in 1919. It is one of the darkest chapters of India's freedom struggle against the British.
