Jalandhar receives bomb threat ahead of Amit Shah's rally, security agencies on high alert
PTC News Desk: A bomb threat has been received ahead of Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s rally in Jalandhar. An email was reportedly sent at around 7:07 am, threatening attacks on Shah’s rally, schools, the Shri Devi Talab Temple and buses.
The email reportedly mentioned plans to carry out blasts at 11:11 am at schools in Jalandhar, 12:11 pm at Shri Devi Talab Temple, 2:11 pm at the court complex and 3:11 pm at an office.
The threatening email also claimed that an IED had been planted under the stage at Amit Shah’s rally. It further alleged that bombs had been placed in two or three of the 2,000 buses expected to bring people to the rally.
The email ended with references to “Khalistan National Army” and “Babbar Khalsa (Parmar-Canada)”, along with the names Gurnakh Singh, Dr Gurnirvair Singh, Prof Gurkal Singh and Prof Gurangaar Singh.
Police and security agencies have been put on alert.
Amit Shah is scheduled to address a rally at Paragpur, near the Jalandhar-Ludhiana Highway, as part of the BJP’s efforts to reach voters across the 23 Assembly constituencies of the Doaba region. The rally will also mark the conclusion of four BJP-led “Nasha Mukt Punjab” (Drug-Free Punjab) campaigns.
Shah is expected to reach Shri Devi Talab Temple at around 12:30 pm, where he will spend about 30 minutes meeting members of the Sant Samaj before heading to the rally venue. He is then scheduled to leave for Delhi by helicopter.
Ahead of his visit, a helipad has been prepared at the ground of Labhu Ram Doaba School near the temple, while another helipad has been set up close to the rally venue.
BJP leader KD Bhandari said Shah’s visit would boost the party’s activities in the state.
The Union Home Minister will first pay obeisance at the Shri Devi Talab Maa Tripur Malini Temple and seek blessings before attending the rally. Punjab BJP president Keval Singh Dhillon said the September 30 rally was being organised not merely as a political event but also as a major campaign to raise awareness against drugs in Punjab.
Drug-Free Punjab campaign to conclude in Jalandhar
The BJP’s Drug-Free Punjab Yatra will conclude in Jalandhar ahead of Shah’s visit. The campaign began from Madhopur in Pathankot district on September 18, 2026, after BJP national president Nitin Nabin flagged it off.
The yatra covered around 4,000 km and travelled across all 117 Assembly constituencies in Punjab.
