Chicago violence toll: 63 people shot while 10 killed
As many as 63 people were shot, while 10 were killed in Chicago shootings on Sunday, according to police records. "The city of Chicago experienced a violent night. Some of these instances were targeted and were related to gang conflicts in those areas," CNN quoted Bureau of Patrol Chief Fred Waller as saying. As per records, the Sunday shootings occurred between midnight and 2 p.m. In at least one incident, shooters opened fire into a crowded street party, he said. Earlier there were six shootings, none fatal, on Friday, and 15 shootings, one fatal, on Saturday.
Waller said the city has taken more than 5,500 guns off the streets this year. He said shootings are down from this time last year.
Chicago has recorded more than 300 murders in 2018, more than any other U.S. city. Waller stressed that the total is down 25 percent from a year ago.
