In the wake of a spike in coronavirus cases, the Karnataka government has decided to impose a complete lockdown every Sunday in the state till August 2. Meanwhile, the essential activities have been exempted during the curfew.
Also, the marriages which were fixed on Sundays would be allowed under the new guidelines. The state government, on Saturday, imposed a complete lockdown under the areas of Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP).
While the complete lockdown started from 8 pm last evening, it would continue till 5 am till Monday morning. The sale of essential items has been permitted.
As of now, the total number of coronavirus cases stands at 19,170 out of which 8,805 patients were recovered. The coronavirus pandemic has claimed over 293 lives in Karnataka so far.
Punjab had also announced weekend lockdown in the state a few weeks ago giving relaxations to the essential activities. Meanwhile, the total number of coronavirus cases in India has increased to 6,73,165 after the country reported the highest single-day spike of 24,850 new COVID19 cases and 613 deaths in the last 24 hours.
Of total cases in India, 2,44,814 are active cases, 4,09,083 cured and discharged and 19,268 patients have succumbed to the pandemic.
