Yamuna river breaches danger mark, flood relief camps set up in Delhi's Mayur Vihar
PTC News Desk: The Yamuna River in Delhi crossed the danger mark on Thursday, with visuals from the Old Iron Bridge showing water levels above 205.33 meters, the official danger threshold. On Wednesday, the level had already surpassed the mark, reaching 205.39 meters at 9 p.m., according to ANI.
Earlier that morning, it was slightly above at 204.61 meters but rose further by evening. The increase is attributed to continuous rainfall over the past few days. On August 26, the national capital experienced heavy showers, prompting the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue a red alert.
Authorities have initiated measures to manage the flood situation, including setting up relief camps in Mayur Vihar by the District Magistrate (East). For Thursday, IMD has forecast generally cloudy skies with chances of light rain and thundershowers. The maximum temperature is expected to range between 31°C and 33°C, while the minimum will stay between 23°C and 25°C.
An IMD report issued on Tuesday indicated that active monsoon conditions are likely to persist in Delhi for the next four days.
Meanwhile authorities have set up flood relief camps in Delhi’s Mayur Vihar so that people can easily move to shelters if the waters enters their home.
