Delhi: PM Modi to address 90th INTERPOL General Assembly on October 18

New Delhi, October 17: The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) announced on Monday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the 90th Interpol General Assembly on October 18 in New Delhi's Pragati Maidan. "The 90th General Assembly of INTERPOL will be held from 18th to 21st October. The meeting will be attended by delegations from 195 INTERPOL member countries comprising of Ministers, Police Chiefs of countries, Heads of National Central Bureaus and Senior police officers," the PMO said. The General Assembly is INTERPOL's top governing body, meeting once a year to make crucial operational decisions. According to the PMO, the INTERPOL General Assembly meeting is being hosted in India after a 25-year gap - it was last held in 1997. The General Assembly overwhelmingly approved India's proposal to hold the INTERPOL General Assembly in New Delhi in 2022, coinciding with the 75th anniversary of India's independence. According to the PMO, the event would provide an opportunity to exhibit best practices in India's law and order system to the world at large. Interpol's 90th Annual General Assembly will be held from October 18 to 21 in New Delhi at Pragati Maidan. The event will be attended by delegations from 195 countries. On October 21, Prime Minister Modi will inaugurate the Assembly, while Union Home Minister Amit Shah will deliver the valedictory address. The General Assembly is Interpol's top governing body, meets annually and is comprised of representatives from 195 member countries. Each member country may send one or more delegates, who are usually ministers, police chiefs, heads of their Interpol National Central Bureaus, and senior ministry officials.
