Who is Angad Singh Brar? White-turbaned youth, MEA official, draws attention at BRICS Summit
PTC News Desk: Angad Singh Brar, a Sikh youth donned in white turban was prominently seen in photographs of the BRICS Summit and negotiations with the presence drawing considerable attention on social media.
He is the son of Ravcharan Singh Brar, a Punjab Police officer serving as Advisor-Training at the Maharaja Ranjit Singh Police Academy, Phillaur. The family hails from Patiala.
Angad is currently working as a Consultant with the Multilateral Economic Relations Division of the Ministry of External Affairs since July 2025. He is also a part of the team Multilateral Economic Relations Division of the Ministry of External Affairs since July 2025.
Brar assists in meetings involving Heads of State or Government and other senior officials at important international gatherings, including G7 summits and the annual meetings of the IMF and World Bank.
An alumnus of the University of Cambridge, Brar completed an MPhil in Politics and International Studies in 2023. He also has an impressive academic record from Panjab University in Chandigarh, where he topped both his MA in Sociology and BA (Honours), winning University Gold Medals in both programmes.
Worked as Research Consultant before joining MEA
Before joining the Ministry of External Affairs, Brar worked as a Research Consultant at the Chintan Research Foundation and as a Research Assistant at the Observer Research Foundation.
At the Observer Research Foundation, he coordinated the Asian Forum on Global Governance, a 10-day international fellowship held as part of the Raisina Dialogue. The programme brought together diplomats and academics from more than 33 countries.
Brar also worked on closed-door bilateral meetings held on the sidelines of the Raisina Dialogue 2024 and was involved in Track 1.5 and Track 2 diplomatic dialogues.
He has written several peer-reviewed research papers and expert opinion articles on multilateral institutions, tariffs and global governance for various platforms, including the Council on Foreign Relations.
His participation in the BRICS Summit has brought attention to the young Sikh professional from Punjab, who is now part of the team helping shape India’s engagement with the expanding multilateral grouping.
