Dhurandhar 2: Udaybir Sandhu reveals extreme transformation as Pinda; calls Ranveer Singh’s performance his best yet
Actor Udaybir Sandhu is receiving widespread appreciation for his powerful portrayal of Pinda in Dhurandhar 2. In a recent interaction, the actor opened up about the depth of his character, the intense preparation involved, and his experience working with Ranveer Singh and director Aditya Dhar.
Udaybir as Pinda in Dhurandhar The Revenge
Speaking about Pinda, Udaybir revealed that the role demanded a striking physical and emotional transformation. The character appears in two contrasting phases - a lean, youthful version in the first half and a heavier, more intense persona in the latter.
To achieve this, the actor underwent a drastic body transformation. “When I first met Aditya sir, I was lean. He told me I needed to gain muscle for the second half because that’s what Pinda demanded,” Udaybir shared.
He went on to explain that he gained significant weight in a short span to create a visible contrast, and later shed kilos again to portray a younger, more boyish version of the character. “I wanted the audience to clearly see the difference, not just physically but also in mannerisms,” he added.
Sleepless Nights for a Defining Scene
One of the most talked-about moments in Dhurandhar 2 is its gripping interval sequence, and Udaybir plays a crucial role in it. The actor revealed that the shoot for this pivotal scene took a toll on him, both physically and mentally.
“I didn’t sleep for three nights,” he said. “We had a three-day shoot schedule for that sequence, and I just couldn’t sleep. Initially, it was because of nervousness - we had an important scene coming up. But it also helped in a way because my character is a drug user, and we needed him to look slightly zoned out. After that, though, I just couldn’t sleep at all.”
The sequence, set in a bathroom, forms the emotional and narrative core of the film’s interval block. Recalling the moment after filming it, Udaybir said that Aditya Dhar’s reaction stayed with him. “I asked him, ‘Was it okay?’ and he told me, ‘You don’t know what you have done.’ That was the first compliment I received for the scene, and it meant a lot.”
Working with Ranveer Singh and Aditya Dhar
Udaybir also spoke warmly about his on-screen chemistry with Ranveer Singh, describing him as “incredibly supportive and warm” on set.
Discussing his collaboration with Aditya Dhar, the actor praised the director’s approach. “He explains every scene in detail, which makes the process creatively fulfilling. At the same time, he gives actors the freedom to bring their own flavor,” Udaybir said. He even revealed that he improvised nearly 30% of his dialogues, something Dhar encouraged and appreciated.
Learning from Different Filmmaking Styles
Apart from Dhurandhar 2, Udaybir was also appreciated for his role as Surinder Shinda in Imtiaz Ali’s Chamkila. Reflecting on his experience with different directors, he noted the contrast in their styles.
“Imtiaz Ali has a very distinct way of directing and is less flexible, whereas Aditya Dhar is more open to collaboration,” he explained. “I feel fortunate to have worked with such brilliant filmmakers and to have learned so much from both.”
Praising Ranveer Singh’s Performance
Udaybir didn’t hold back in praising his co-star’s performance in the film. “Ranveer Singh has absolutely killed it. According to me, this is his best performance yet,” he said.
Well, Udaybir Sandhu has created a huge fanbase with his interval scene in the film Dhurandhar 2 for which he is being much apprecaited nationwide. Fans are expecting more such performances from the actor.
