While announcing that final exams in Tamil Nadu have been cancelled, Edappadi K Palaniswami said that the students of classes 9, 10, and 11 will be promoted to the next class without taking exams, in the light of the COVID-19 pandemic in Tamil Nadu.
While addressing the state legislative assembly, he said that the Tamil Nadu Government has also increased the retirement age of government employees from 59 to 60.
Meanwhile, the Central government has deputed high-level multi-disciplinary teams to Maharashtra, Kerala, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Punjab, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir to support them in public health measures for COVID response and management.
These teams will work closely with the States/UT administration and ascertain the reasons for the recent surge in the number of COVID-19 cases.
The Central teams will also coordinate with health authorities of the States/UT for requisite COVID-19 control measures to break the chain of transmission.
The States and UT have been advised for regular critical review of the emerging situation with concerned District officials to ensure that gains made so far in COVID management are not lost.
