"Beginning of AAP's end": AAP's friend turned foe Prashant Bhushan slams Kejriwal for party's defeat

PTC News Desk: Former AAP leader and lawyer Prashant Bhushan has taken a tig over Arvind Kejriwal and held him accountable for party's thumping defeat in Delhi assembly elections while calling it 'beginning of end' for the party.

In a post on X, Bhushan criticised Kejriwal for abandoning AAP's original vision of transparency, accountability, and alternative politics.

"A party formed for alternative politics, which was supposed to be transparent, accountable, and democratic, was quickly transformed by Arvind into a supremo-dominated, non-transparent, and corrupt party," he wrote.

Bhushan also criticized the former Chief Minister over the 'sheeshmahal' controversy, a key issue during the elections, in which Kejriwal was accused of misusing public funds to renovate the Chief Minister's residence.

"He built a Rs 45 crore sheeshmahal for himself and began travelling in luxury cars. He binned 33 detailed policy reports of expert committees set up by AAP, saying that the party would adopt expedient policies when the time comes," Bhushan alleged.

Hazare had previously stated that AAP had strayed from its path by focusing on money rather than public service, which tarnished its credibility and contributed to its defeat.

After a decade of governing Delhi, AAP faced a significant electoral blow as the BJP made a strong comeback to power after 27 years. The BJP won 48 seats in the 70-member Assembly, while AAP secured only 22. The party's key leaders, including Kejriwal, lost their seats.
