Former MLA Sarup Chand Singla and his supporters were passing through Ward No. 2 after the voting process concluded when the attack allegedly took place. Singla has accused the Aam Aadmi Party candidate of carrying out the attack. His gunman was also injured in the incident.
The injured have been admitted to Government Hospital in Bathinda for treatment.
Around six persons are reported to have been injured in the incident.

A scuffle broke out in the final two minutes of polling in Ward No 9 of Zira, where workers of AAP and Congress came face to face over a dispute related to a vote.
The argument soon turned into a physical clash, during which an Aam Aadmi Party worker reportedly suffered a fractured nose bone.

Tense scenes were witnessed at Booth No. 16 falling under Ward No. 5 during the Municipal Council elections in Dera Bassi, after Congress and BJP candidates levelled serious allegations of bogus voting against the husband of the ruling party candidate.
Both parties claimed that votes were being cast without proper ID proof and that election rules were being openly violated at the booth.
Polling agents who raised objections were allegedly intimidated, and attempts were also made to force them out of the booth premises.
The situation remained tense for some time, with heated arguments erupting between supporters of different parties.
Meanwhile, election officials present at the spot said the matter was being investigated and assured that strict action would be taken as per rules if any irregularities were found.

Polling for the Municipal Council Jandiala Guru elections recorded a gradual rise in voter turnout throughout the day, according to official data released by the Returning Officer-cum-Sub Divisional Magistrate, Amritsar-I.
As per the report, voter turnout stood at 15 per cent till 10 am, which increased to 31.85 per cent by 12 noon. By 2 pm, polling reached 46.48 per cent, while turnout rose to 57.08 per cent till 4 pm.
The polling was held for wards 1 to 15, excluding wards 6 and 9, where candidates had already been elected unopposed.
Municipal Council elections in Sangrur district concluded peacefully, barring a few isolated incidents.
All polling booth gates were closed at 5 pm. Only those voters who had entered the premises before 5 pm were allowed to cast their votes.
Polling turnout was recorded at around 75 to 80 per cent.
Despite the intense heat, voters showed great enthusiasm in exercising their franchise.
However, adequate arrangements for drinking water and protection from the heat were reportedly lacking for voters at several polling stations.

The Shiromani Akali Dal candidate alleged that fake votes were being cast in favour of AAP candidate after people were allegedly allowed inside the polling booth unlawfully. The candidate also accused the police of manhandling and even slapping him during the confrontation.
The incident reportedly took place at Government Primary Smart School in Kumbra, where polling was underway.
Police officials later reached the spot and brought the situation under control.
Notably, voting was scheduled to continue till 5 pm. Allegations have also been levelled against the police for allegedly forcing votes in favour of AAP candidate.
The voting process officially ended at 5 pm, following which the gates of polling booths were closed. However, voters who had joined the queues before the deadline are still being allowed to cast their votes. Police teams have tightened security at all polling stations, and only those standing in line are being permitted entry.

As polling nears end in Samana, clashes and sporadic incidents of violence have been reported from multiple locations.
Police personnel are reportedly facing difficulties in controlling the situation as opposition candidates continue to raise slogans against the Aam Aadmi Party and the police administration.
Stone-pelting was also reported from Ward No. 19, where several workers of the Shiromani Akali Dal and the Indian National Congress were allegedly assaulted by supporters of the AAP, while police personnel were accused of not intervening effectively.
A controversy erupted in Rama Mandi over allegations of fake voting after it was claimed that someone else has caste a vote in place of a young voter, resulting in chaos at the polling station.
The Shiromani Akali Dal Halqa in-charge Ravi Preet Singh Sidhu accused the Aam Aadmi Party of involvement in the incident. He alleged that the ruling party was facilitating fake voting with the support of the police.
Candidates from Ward No. 19 of Samana have written a letter to the Returning Officer, demanding cancellation of the election in the ward.
The request comes after earlier reports of a confrontation between police and locals, which had created a tense atmosphere in the area.
In view of the situation, the candidates have urged authorities to consider holding fresh elections in Ward No. 19 due to the prevailing tension.
SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia took to his social media and slammed alleged assault of party worker in Amritsar's Majitha. He accused Aam Aadmi Party of high-handedness and Majitha SSP of exercising law lessness.

Fatehgarh Sahib civic bypolls recorded an overall voter turnout of 51 per cent till 2 pm. Khamanon registered the highest polling at 57.97 per cent, followed by Mandi Gobindgarh (53.61 per cent), Bassi Pathana (47.71 per cent) and Sirhind-Fatehgarh Sahib (44.73 per cent).
Patiala district recorded an overall voter turnout of 45.51 per cent till 2 pm. Patran registered the highest polling at 50.84 per cent, followed by Rajpura (45.75 per cent), Nabha (44.99 per cent) and Samana (43.26 per cent).
Tensions prevailed in Amritsar's Majitha after multiple violent incidents reported across Municipal Council. An Akali Dal woman candidate from Ward No. 2, Amarjeet Kaur, was allegedly manhandled and an Akali worker accompanying his elderly mother for voting was reportedly beaten. Allegations of booth capturing also surfaced in Ward No. 9.
Meanwhile, Congress candidate's husband who was serving as polling agent was allegedly stopped from entering the booth.
Bikram Singh Majithia raised the matter with observers and the SSP, but claimed that no immediate action was taken against those accused. He further alleged that after attempting to file a complaint at the police station, Akali workers were again attacked.
Tension prevailed outside a polling station in Ward no. 5 of Khanna after former Cabinet Minister Gurkirat Singh Kotli levelled serious allegations of large-scale deletion of votes and movement of AAP workers inside polling stations in different wards of the city.
Shiromani Akali Dali has written to State Election Commission, Punjab against AAP MLA from Gidderbaha Dimpy Dhillon over alleged booth capturing. SAD in its letter highlighted alleged misconduct by Dhillon, his PA Jagtar Singh and other AAP workers and accused them of booth capturing, intimidating opposition workers, and blatant misuse of police machinery.
In its letter, SAD also alleged that Dimpy Dhillon along with his PA and party workers unlawfully interfered in polling process and attempted to influence and capture the polling stations through force, intimidation and misuse of official machinery.
In Majitha, Amritsar, supporters of the Shiromani Akali Dal and the Aam Aadmi Party came face to face, leading to a tense situation.
Bikram Singh Majithia had reached Ward No. 2 to take stock of the situation when the confrontation took place.
Seeing the clash, the police immediately intervened and removed workers from both sides to restore order.

BJP candidate Deepinder Kaur's husband Jasvir Singh was allegedly attacked during voting in Barnala. He alleged that since morning, some outsiders linked to the Aam Aadmi Party had been moving around the ward, and despite informing the police administration, no action was taken.

Violence erupted at the polling booth in Ward No. 19 of the Samana Municipal Council elections, where clashes involving stone-pelting and brick-batting were reported.
During the chaos, a youth allegedly suffered an electric shock and was seriously injured. He was later referred to a hospital in Patiala for treatment. The injured person is reportedly a worker of the Bharatiya Janata Party.
A major confrontation was reported in Ward No. 19 of Samana, where police and local residents came face to face during the elections.
According to reports, a police personnel carrying an AK-47 allegedly fired shots in the air. Stone-pelting and baton clashes were also reported in the ward during the unrest.
An incident involving a broken seal of a ballot box has come to light from Ward No. 36 in Sector 70, Mohali.
Tension erupted at the polling booth over allegations that seal on a ballot box had already been broken before voting.


During the municipal council elections in Patti, Tarn Taran, alleged incidents of violence and chaos were reported in Ward No. 18.
At Government School, booths No. 35, 36, 37, and 38, a crowd reportedly attempted to cast votes illegally, leading toviolent clash at the polling site.
It is further alleged that ballot papers were snatched and individuals fled from the scene. During media coverage, journalists were also reportedly manhandled, and a mobile phone was snatched, escalating tensions at the location.

Clashes broke out during polling in Ward No. 15 of Samana with Congress leaders alleging misconduct by Surjit Singh Rakhra. They claimed that Rakhra was promoting hooliganism in Samana and that “anti-social elements” had been sent to the ward to create disturbance. The leaders also alleged that women were manhandled during the incident and that polling booths of opposition parties were vandalised.
Samrala Municipal Council elections began peacefully on Monday, but the administration came under criticism over the absence of wheelchair facilities for elderly and specially-abled voters at several polling booths.
Many senior citizens and persons with disabilities faced inconvenience as wheelchairs were not available at polling stations, despite official claims of adequate arrangements for smooth polling. In several instances, family members and local residents had to carry disabled voters to the booths to help them cast their votes.
The situation highlighted shortcomings in voter facilitation during the civic polls, with voters stating that basic amenities for senior citizens and differently-abled individuals should have been properly ensured.

A woman from Ward No. 8 fell unconscious, and similar scenes were reported from Ward No. 17. By around 11 a.m., rising temperatures had already made conditions difficult, leading to the two women collapsing due to heat.

During the municipal corporation elections in Moga, a clash broke out between supporters of the Indian National Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party in Ward No. 41.
The dispute began over standing outside the polling booth and quickly escalated into a tense situation, prompting police intervention. SP Krishna Singla, who reached the spot, acted swiftly to calm both sides and bring the situation under control.
Barnala is witnessing strong enthusiasm among voters for the municipal corporation and council elections. By 10 a.m., the polling percentage had already been recorded as fairly good.
In Barnala Municipal Corporation, voting stood at 17.8%, while Municipal Council Dhanoa recorded 15.42% turnout and Municipal Council Bhadaur saw 22.1% polling. Another report for Dhanoa also indicated a turnout of 18.2%.

Punjab Congress President Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, along with his wife Amrita, travelled on a bullock cart to cast his vote. In his post, he said that petrol and diesel prices have become expensive, and therefore he chose to travel by bullock cart with his wife to the polling booth.
He added that he was conveying a message from the common people to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, highlighting the outcome of the government’s “good days” promise and its impact on the public.

In Ward No. 10 of Samana, an early morning incident of alleged booth capturing created a tense situation. According to information, some unidentified individuals attempted to take control of the polling booth, and during the clash, supporters of the opposition were also reportedly assaulted.
It is further alleged that certain people entered the booth and damaged CCTV cameras installed there. The mobile phones of journalists present on the spot were also reportedly snatched, causing panic at the scene.
Following the incident, tension continues in the area, while police and administration have launched an investigation into the matter.
Long queues were witnessed in most wards since morning with several voters complained of poor arrangements with absence of tents to battle blazing sun. “There were no proper arrangements for drinking water, seating or wheelchairs for elderly persons,” said a voter.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann once again stirred political debate in the state by claiming that in the upcoming Vidhan Sabha elections, the BJP would win 1-2 seats in Pathankot district, Congress would secure up to nine seats, and the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) would draw a blank.
Congress MLA Sukhwinder Kotli from Adampur, while visiting polling booths alleged that the Aam Aadmi Party had created fake votes in the constituency. He further claimed that ration kits were distributed in the market two days before polling to influence voters.
However, he said that this time people would vote on the basis of development and have become disillusioned with the Aam Aadmi Party. He added that the party’s workers, leaders, and constituency in-charge should now consider their position uncertain.
During polling, entry of nine items inside polling booths has been prohibited. Punjab Election Commissioner Raj Kamal Chaudhary said that mobile phones will be completely banned this time, and even switched-off mobiles will not be allowed inside polling stations.
In addition, voters will not be permitted to carry water bottles, ink, knives, screwdrivers, weapons, cameras, matchboxes, or lighters into the booth. He also urged voters to leave their mobile phones at home before coming to vote.

Out of the 7,555 candidates contesting the elections, 1,801 are from the Aam Aadmi Party, 1,550 belong to the Indian National Congress, 1,316 are fielded by the Bharatiya Janata Party, 1,251 represent the Shiromani Akali Dal, and 96 are from the Bahujan Samaj Party. In addition, 1,528 candidates are contesting as Independents. Authorities rejected the nomination papers of 713 candidates during the scrutiny process. The voter base comprises 18,33,712 men, 17,11,635 women, and 220 voters registered under the “other” category.

The municipal corporation elections are being held in Abohar, Barnala, Batala, Bathinda, Kapurthala, Moga, Pathankot, and Mohali. Elections in the Hoshiarpur municipal corporation are also due as the revision process for electoral rolls was yet to be completed.
The local body polls hold significant reverence as they are being seen as the semi-final before the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections.
Meanwhile, Shiromani Akali Dal has asked the State Election Commission to extend polling hours. Akali leader Daljit Singh Cheema said the voting time should be changed from 8 am–5 pm to 7 am–6 pm.
Cheema said the state is facing extreme heat, which could reduce voter turnout. He added that extending voting hours by two hours in the morning and evening would help increase participation. He also said the current timing is not suitable for labourers, as many may not be able to vote because of work commitments.
