Air India plane crash: Udaipur's brother-sister duo dies in crash, were on way to London for vacation
PTC Web Desk: In a tragic incident, Air India’s flight en route from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick, crashed shortly after takeoff from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport on Thursday afternoon at approximately 1.40 pm. The aircraft was carrying a total of 242 persons, including crew members. While the cause of the crash is under investigation, preliminary reports raise fears of multiple fatalities.
Among the passengers were four residents of Udaipur, Rajasthan, who have been identified in the official manifest. The local community is reeling from the shock, as families and officials scramble for updates.
Shubh Modi (24) and Shagun Modi (22), children of well-known marble businessman Pinku Modi, were aboard the ill-fated flight. Both siblings had recently completed their MBA degrees and were actively assisting in their family business. According to family sources, the two were heading to London for a leisure trip and planned to stay with a friend. Their names appeared as number 98 and 99 in the passenger list. Upon receiving news of the crash, the Modi family left immediately for Ahmedabad.
Two other passengers from Udaipur’s Rundeda village have also been confirmed onboard. Vardhi Chand Menaria and Prakash Menaria, both employed as chefs in London, were returning from a visit to India. Their names were listed as number 90 and 91 in the passenger manifest.
The incident has triggered a wave of concern across Rajasthan. Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma canceled all scheduled programmes and held talks with the Udaipur District Collector to assess the situation and check on the status of the passengers from the region.
Emergency response teams, along with aviation authorities, are conducting rescue and recovery operations at the crash site. Official confirmation of the casualty count is awaited, although several reports suggest the likelihood of multiple deaths.
