Bajrang Singh: Ex NSG commando who fought 26/11 terrorists, is now drug kingpin

PTC News Desk: A former National Security Guard (NSG) commando has been arrested by Rajasthan police in Churu for allegedly running a large-scale cannabis smuggling network.

Bajrang Singh was part of the group of NSG commandos who bravely fought against the terrorists during 26/11 operation, has now been declared kingpin of a ganja smuggling racket. A resident of Sikar district, Singh had been on the police radar due to his criminal activities and carried a reward of Rs 25,000.

According to the police, Singh had been on the police radar due to his involvement in criminal activities. The police further said that he was arrested after two months of relentless efforts under 'Operation Gaanjaney,' carried out by the state's Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) and Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF).

Politics and Crime

Bajrang Singh’s story reflects how a former commando, once entrusted with protecting the nation, strayed into the dark world of crime, ultimately becoming part of a drug trafficking network.

His political involvement brought him into contact with individuals linked to criminal activities. One such connection introduced him to the profits of the ganja trade. Drawing on his knowledge of Odisha and the experience he gained in the BSF, Singh reactivated his old networks in Odisha and Telangana, building ties with those already in the business. Within just a year, he rose swiftly through the ranks and emerged as a key figure in the ganja syndicate.

Unlike small-scale peddlers, Singh handled massive consignments, moving quintals of ganja across state borders despite the risks. Over time, multiple cases were registered against him, including in his native Sikar, where authorities seized several quintals of the banned drug. In 2023, he was arrested near Hyderabad for transporting two quintals of ganja.

Bajrang’s Entry into the Forces

Singh left school after Class 10, but his six-foot frame and physical fitness paved the way for a career in the Border Security Force (BSF). As a BSF constable, he served in Punjab, Assam, Rajasthan, Odisha, and West Bengal, guarding borders and engaging in anti-Maoist operations.

His dedication caught the attention of his superiors, leading to his induction into the elite National Security Guard (NSG). As a commando, he served for seven years and even took part in the 26/11 counter-terror operation in 2008.

By 2021, Singh’s political ambitions had become clear, police said. Returning to his Rajasthan village, he became active in party politics and even put forward his wife as a candidate in the local elections—though she was unsuccessful.
